What Modern does well

  • Contact line with a small icon before each detail, LinkedIn included
  • Blue headings and company names on an otherwise black-and-grey page
  • Job title, employer and location on separate lines, with dates aligned right
  • Hairline rules between entries, which keep a long work history easy to scan
  • Grades printed in green beneath each qualification

Content
Written for the posting you paste in

Upload your CV and paste a job posting. The Studio writes the content for that role, scores it against the posting, and lays it out in Modern.

How Modern is laid out

Modern is a one-column A4 layout with your name in bold at the top left and your contact details beneath it, each preceded by a small icon. A blue rule closes off the header and summary, and the sections follow in order: work experience, education, skills, projects and awards, each under a blue uppercase heading with a thin underline.

Who it suits

  • Applications in marketing, product or tech that call for a little colour in a single column
  • Candidates who want their LinkedIn profile visible in the header
  • Work histories of three or more roles, since each one sits in its own ruled block
  • Recent graduates with a grade worth showing, which is picked out in green

Good to know

  • The icons are text characters, so they come through next to your email and phone number when software extracts the PDF's text. If a portal garbles your contact details, Simple has the same structure without icons.
  • Expect two pages once you have several roles plus projects and awards; Compact fits far more on one.
