What Classic does well

  • Name in spaced capitals above one line of contact details divided by vertical bars
  • Pure black text and rules, with no shading or colour
  • Justified summary and bullet points for straight edges on both sides
  • Education listed institution first, with degree and grade in italics
  • Skills split across two columns to save vertical space

Content
Written for the posting you paste in

Upload your CV and paste a job posting. The Studio writes the content for that role, scores it against the posting, and lays it out in Classic.

How Classic is laid out

Everything in Classic is black and set in a Times-style serif, in one column on A4. A centred, letter-spaced name in capitals heads the page, with address, phone, email, website and LinkedIn on one line and a full-width rule beneath; sections follow with bold capital headings and underlines, job titles in bold, employers in italics and dates on the right.

Who it suits

  • Law firms, banks, the civil service and other employers with traditional expectations
  • Graduates whose university name carries weight, since each education entry opens with it
  • Online applications where you want a plain single column with standard headings
  • CVs that will be printed or photocopied, as everything is pure black

Good to know

  • Justified text can leave wide gaps between words on short lines, particularly in bullets that contain long words or web addresses.
  • For an even plainer page, BGJC drops the justification and the grades; for a softer serif look, try Simple.
