What Sidebar does well

  • Right-hand sidebar for labelled contact details and grouped skills
  • Each role on a timeline, with start and end dates stacked to the left of a thin line
  • Small icons beside the headings for experience, education, projects and awards
  • Name in capitals with the surname in bold, summary directly beneath
  • Holds a lot on one page thanks to its small type

Content
Written for the posting you paste in

Upload your CV and paste a job posting. The Studio writes the content for that role, scores it against the posting, and lays it out in Sidebar.

How Sidebar is laid out

Sidebar splits a US Letter page into a wide main column on the left and a light grey sidebar on the right, about a quarter of the width, both running to the page edges. The main column starts with your name in capitals and a summary in small type, then sets out work experience, education, projects and awards as a timeline with the dates to the left of a thin line; the sidebar holds labelled contact details and your skills.

Who it suits

  • Consultants and contractors whose project dates and sequence matter
  • Long histories that need to fit on one page, given the small type
  • People who like two columns but want their experience on the left, where reading starts

Good to know

  • Text in the main column is set at 7pt in the PDF, which is small; print a page to make sure it reads comfortably.
  • Two-column PDFs are not always read in the right order by applicant tracking systems. Timeline gives a similar dated layout in a single column.
  • On a second page the grey sidebar continues down the right-hand side but stays empty.
